Importing Fonts

When you add fonts to your FontAgent® catalog, it verifies the integrity of the fonts and organizes them in a centralized database—so you can search, view, manage and select fonts easily and reliably. FontAgent also automatically maintains an Import History log to help you better organize your fonts and manage your FontAgent catalog..

What Happens When You Import Fonts

When you import fonts, FontAgent automatically:

  • Finds all fonts in the specified folders and subfolders
  • Verifies that the fonts comply with industry font-file standards
  • Identifies duplicate fonts and imports only unique ones
  • Adds applicable fonts to your catalog
  • Enters font metadata into the FontAgent catalog
  • Provides a results log of the import process
  • Updates your Import History

Import Fonts into Your Catalog

To import fonts, select the Import Fonts command from the Home or Fonts menu ribbon or type Ctrl+O. FontAgent displays a dialog so you can choose a font file or a Windows folder containing fonts to import. Select a font or a folder of fonts to import them into your catalog. The fonts automatically become members of the All Fonts set.

Import Fonts into a New Set

To import fonts into a new set, either:

  • Import the new fonts or folder of fonts into FontAgent
  • The new set will appear in the Import History section of the Sets Sidebar with a timestamped name.
  • Right-click the set name and rename it, or create a new set and drag the newly imported fonts into the set.

Import Fonts into an Existing Set

To import fonts into an existing set, drag the fonts from your Windows desktop onto the set name in the Sets Sidebar. You cannot drag fonts into Smart Sets, since the members of those sets are based on criteria you specify.

Using Subscription Fonts

FontAgent automatically sees fonts activated by Adobe Fonts and other font subscription services that store their fonts in Windows file system folders. So there is no need to import fonts from Adobe Fonts because FontAgent lets you use those fonts like the other ones in your FontAgent catalog.

Support for Windows PostScript Type 1 Fonts

Windows PostScript Type 1 fonts are a legacy font format that Microsoft stopped supporting in 2013, but some older Windows applications might still support the use of PostScript Type 1 fonts. To maintain consistency with Windows platform standards, FontAgent for Windows allows you to import and manage old Windows Type 1 fonts, but does not display them in their native typefaces in WYSIWYG mode.

When you import Windows PostScript Type 1 fonts, FontAgent:

  • Identifies all unmatched PostScript and incomplete fonts and does not import them
  • Removes unnecessary point sizes from screen fonts to save system resources
  • Renames each screen font file to the font name used by Windows and FontAgent
  • Splits up legacy suitcases into individual font files for precise control
